Home of the magic

Home of the magic

EST. 1998  Kersfontein

At the foot of Paardeberg, the well-known landmark between Paarl, Wellington and Malmesbury, nature created the perfect conditions for growing and nurturing some of South Africa’s finest wines.
When Pieter Taljaard found this gem following his successful career in the mining industry he decided to assemble a team of professionals who share his passion for creating fine wines and to build a legacy. Taillard Family Wines was born.

Home of the magic

Our farm, Kersfontien, covers 134 hectares of some of the best wine land in the country – that equates to about 200 football fields. A large portion of the farm is situated on the eastern slopes of the Paardeberg Mountain in Paarl with more than a third of the available land currently under vineyards.
Our permanent inhabitants include 17 cows, our farm manager with his wife and another 19 staff and their families. The farm also houses a small and very old acorn forest – for no apparent reason – but we thought it added character to the place, so we kept it in the hope that it will reveal its secrets one day…
More than 75% of the farm’s production delivers Red Varietals with Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage accounting for more than 50% of total production.

In the Cellar

The old cellar dates back from 1790 and is as rustic as they come. She is still used to this day for storing our wines and her generously proportioned walls makes for good climate control. If you are ever fortunate enough to visit the farm for a private tasting, you’ll be transported back in time when function ruled over fancy and where stories were made not read.
